Metodą kalorymetrii typu drop zmierzono cząstkowe i molową entalpię mieszania ciekłych stopów Ag-Li-Sb. Metodę kalorymetrii drop wykorzystano do pomiaru entalpii rozpuszczania fazy AgLi2Sb w ciekłej cynie i licie, a następnie wyznaczono entalpię tworzenia tej fazy. Są to pierwsze dane termodynamiczne dla fazy AgLi2Sb. Metodę pomiaru siły elektrochemicznej w powiązaniu z techniką miareczkowania kulometrycznego, użyto w celu określenia zakresu homogeniczności istniejących faz i granic tych faz w badanym układzie.

Abstract

The basis of energy storage in lithium-ion batteries is the movement of lithium ions between the anode made of graphite layers in the polymer and the cathode made of layered metal oxide, both are in the conductive electrolyte. Currently, lithium-ion batteries are characterized by a relatively large capacity, long operating time and repeatability of the "charge - discharge" cycles. However, research is ongoing for anode materials that would increase the capacity of the batteries. The most promising anode materials for lithium ion batteries are intermetallic compounds in which at least one of the metals reacts with lithium. An example of such an intermetallic compound is the Ag3Sb phase, which in reaction with lithium forms the AgLi2Sb phase.

The main goal of the doctoral dissertation was to measure the thermodynamic properties of ternary alloys from the Ag-Li-Sb system at high temperatures, and the motivation to start the research was the lack of thermodynamic data for these alloys and a complete phase diagram of the Ag-Li-Sb system. At the beginning of the work, the state of knowledge about Ag-Li-Sb alloys was presented based on an extensive literature survey. The method of producing lithium alloys and methods of testing their properties are described. During the study, two experimental methods were used: the method of measuring the electromotive force in the cells and drop calorimetry.

Partial and molar enthalpy of mixing of Ag-Li-Sb alloys were measured by drop calorimetry. Molar enthalpy of mixing strongly changes with the composition of alloys. The experimental data were compared with the mixing enthalpy calculated using two geometric models and it was found that the Muggian model, after taking into account the ternary interactions, better reproduces the experimental data. Obtained molar and partial dependencies of the mixing enthalpy on concentration allowed estimating the location of liquidus at the measurement temperature. The drop calorimetry method was used to measure the enthalpy of dissolution of the AgLi2Sb phase in liquid tin and lithium, and then the enthalpy of formation of this phase was determined. These are the first thermodynamic data for the AgLi2Sb phase. The method of measuring electrochemical force in conjunction with the coulometric titration technique was used to determine the range of homogeneity of existing phases and the boundaries of these phases in the examined system. Measurements were made for alloys with a constant Ag to Sb ratio as a function of Li concentration, where the molar ratio of silver to antimony was 1:1 and 1:4. The same method was used to measure Gibbs energy to form the AgLi2Sb phase. The obtained, new experimental data may be used in the future in the critical assessment of the Ag-Li-Sb phase diagram with the CALPHAD method.
