The texture presented in Fig. 2a favours tensile 10-12 twinning during compression along R3 axis (Z axis of the sample). That is because c axes of crystallites lie perpendicular to axis of compression and they are subjected to tension in this deformation mode. Due to presence of six equivalent {10-12} planes in a hexagonal crystal lattice, grain can undergo twinning in six different ways: {10-12}<-1011>, {01-12}<0-111>, {-1102}<1-101>, {-1012}<10-11>, {0-112}<01-11>, {1-102}<-1101>. The choice of the variant depends on the crystal orientation and direction of the shear stress. The most common model describing the twinning behaviour of Mg alloys is use of Schmid factor (SF) for calculation of grain possible twinning variants. Although there have been reported many deviations from the Schmid law for mechanical twinning, this model seems to be the most appropriate for description of simple {10-12} twinning in Mg.

I started writing a paper on my computer program. At this stage, it's time to release a version which could be used by some researchers outside. However, before this could be done, the software must be documented, which is a tedious part of work :)

During the last month I was preparing the postconference paper. Since the confrence materials from EMRS 2014 symp. I could be published in journal "Sol-gel science and technlogy" the proposed paper was entitled "Photochemical silver nanoparticles deposition on sol-gel TiO2 for plasmonic properties utilization". Just after the paper submition I was preparing the scientific project proposal to National Center of Science. The project on " The process parameters influence on photochemical deposition of metal nanoparticles on the surface of titanium dioxide on plasmonic properties of obtained nanostructures" which was the continuation of results enclosed within the submitted paper. Within the experimental part I stated depostion from freshly obtined solution from Institute of Catalysis PAS.

This month I was preparing to pass the final examination of PhD in the field of materials science. After passing the exam I got involved in writing the article to Materials Science and Engineering. To do so, I had to first complete the experiment with plane stress compression. All experiment works were done before the end of the month.

Participation at International Meeting: CALPHAD and THERMAM. Presentation of results of liquid binaries including atomistic calculations and those based on classical equation of atoms movement. They were compared to measured data. These studies were also supplemented by semi-empirical considerations.
